Marco Rubio gives his opinion in the situation regarding Putin.
Pressure on Russia’s military campaign continues mounting as Western officials increasingly point toward staggering battlefield losses and growing Ukrainian combat strength.
Fresh remarks from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have now added another layer to that discussion, with the Trump administration figure describing Ukraine’s armed forces as the strongest military force currently operating in Europe.
Rubio points to Russian losses
Speaking during an interview with Fox News, Rubio argued that Russia continues paying an enormous human cost for the war despite its much larger population and military infrastructure.
“If you look closely, the Russians are losing five times more soldiers every month than the Ukrainians, and Ukraine is a smaller country, and its army is not as large either,” said Marco Rubio.
Rubio stressed that Ukraine’s military capabilities have evolved dramatically since the invasion began, largely because of combat experience gained during years of high-intensity warfare and continued Western military assistance.
American officials increasingly view Ukraine’s battlefield adaptability as one of the defining military developments in modern Europe.
Russian casualties continue rising
Rubio also claimed Russian forces continue suffering severe monthly losses along the front lines.
According to the secretary of state, Russia is allegedly losing between 15,000 and 20,000 soldiers every month, referring specifically to fatalities rather than injuries.
Western intelligence estimates have repeatedly suggested that Moscow has relied heavily on manpower advantages to sustain offensive operations despite heavy attrition.
Rubio nevertheless acknowledged that peace negotiations have slowed significantly during recent months because both sides still believe battlefield conditions could improve in their favor.
“But we hope that, whether because of Vladimir Putin’s statement or for other reasons, we will soon reach a point where both sides return to negotiations,” said Marco Rubio.
Massive drone attacks hit Ukraine
Comments from Washington arrived shortly after another large-scale Russian aerial assault targeting Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces launched more than 1,500 drones alongside dozens of missiles during attacks carried out across two days in mid-May.
Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted 94 percent of incoming drones and roughly 73 percent of missiles, according to figures released by Kyiv.
Zelenskyy described the attacks as part of a broader Russian strategy designed to overwhelm Ukrainian defense systems through concentrated waves of drones and cruise missiles.
Kyiv searching for new solutions
Ukraine’s president also revealed he instructed intelligence officials to explore additional methods for countering large-scale aerial attacks.
Military analysts say Russia has increasingly relied on stockpiling drones and missiles before launching concentrated barrages aimed at critical infrastructure and urban areas.
Ballistic missile interception remains one of Kyiv’s greatest challenges despite continued support from Western defense partners.
Ukrainian officials warn that future attacks could become even more complex as Russia continues adjusting tactics and increasing drone production capacity.
