The day GTA 6 never arrived: fans celebrate and mourn a release date that came and went without the game.
Today is the date Rockstar Games once set as the release day for GTA 6.
Nothing came of it, and the game has since been delayed to 19 November 2026.
Even so, fans are celebrating and mocking the occasion en masse on social media, while Rockstar’s official X account still has a pinned tweet showing the old date.
According to IGN Nordic
The Pinned Tweet That Never Lied
Rockstar’s pinned post on X dates from 6 May 2025 and shows GTA 6 Trailer 2 with 26 May 2026 listed as the release date.
Technically, Rockstar’s official account is still telling the world the game is out today. That detail has not gone unnoticed by fans.
The comments are flooding in. “I’m gonna sue them for emotional damages and false advertising or something,” one fan joked. Another followed up with: “I’m playing it rn. I’m loving it so far…..(pls Rockstar give us something 😭)”.
Twelve Months Without a Single Sign of Life
The pinned tweet highlights something many fans have already felt for some time: the past year has offered almost no official communication from Rockstar.
Since Trailer 2 dropped a year ago, fans have kept themselves busy with increasingly creative theories about Trailer 3, pre-orders and release dates.
According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, the parent company behind Rockstar, the official marketing push is on its way. In an interview with IGN, he confirmed that the GTA 6 marketing campaign will kick off this summer and that the November date remains locked in.
The Internet Holds Its Own Release Day
While the actual launch has been pushed back, many people could not let the day pass without marking it.
Fans have shared fake review roundups, AI-generated images of YouTube’s front page packed with GTA 6 videos, and at least one person even queued outside their local GameStop as a joke.
The bottom line is that the game is now roughly half a year away from its real release date. Perhaps Rockstar will finally unpin that tweet once they release pre-order details, pricing or new screenshots.
