Do you think. he is right?

Russia recently launched a massive attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, during which Moscow reportedly used the Oreshnik ballistic missile.

The day after the attack, the Kremlin urged diplomats to leave Kyiv, as more strikes were being planned, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov even told his American counterpart, Marco Rubio, that the US should start evacuating diplomats.

Russian threats are nothing new, but it is unusual for Moscow to directly warn Western diplomats like this—so why are the warnings coming now?

Signs of weakness

According to Digi24, s senior American politician believes the warnings from Russia reveal a deeper problem for Moscow.

Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv, U.S. Congressman Jim Himes argued that aggressive statements from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov actually signal a complete stalemate on the battlefield.

For the first time in a long while, Russian forces are losing ground.

Himes, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, urged the Russian public to question the conflict. He wants ordinary citizens to take a closer look at the heavy sacrifices they are being forced to make.

It is a terrible trade-off. According to the lawmaker, families are losing their sons merely to support a dictator who is failing to hold territory.

The situation on the ground will likely become even more difficult for Moscow soon. Over the next few months, Ukrainian troops are expected to push forward and retake more land.

It will not be easy, but Himes notes that this progress will come at a devastating cost to Russia.

Targeting the innocent

The American lawmaker also claimed that the recent threats demonstrate a willingness to commit war crimes.

He pointed out that threatening diplomats fits a broader pattern of behavior.

For months, Russian forces have regularly targeted civilian sites such as hospitals, maternity wards, and local aid organizations.

However, intimidation tactics often backfire. Instead of scaring people away, the Russian threats aimed a Western diplomats, including Lavrov’s warning to Rubio, wappears to be generating more support.

Romania already reacted sharply by summoning the Russian ambassador. Meanwhile, Himes announced that he is already planning his next trip to Kyiv alongside an American senator to secure additional resources for Ukraine.

The lawmaker made his stance clear before leaving. “Everything that Sergei Lavrov stands for is exactly what free people must fight against,” Himes said.
