The granddaughter of the President has become very unpopular among the US citizens.
A brief social media clip from the NBA Finals has turned into an online controversy after viewers began questioning whether a key part of the footage had been altered.
Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump, shared a video this week showing the pair standing together during the national anthem before Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. Instead of focusing on basketball, however, much of the discussion quickly shifted to the audio track accompanying the video.
A Different Sound Than Viewers Remember
The footage showed Trump and his granddaughter on the arena’s giant video board before tip-off between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.
During the live television broadcast, loud boos could be heard throughout the arena as the president appeared on screen. Trump nevertheless continued smiling and saluting during the anthem.
A day later, Kai Trump posted her own version of the moment on social media.
“Thank you to 15SOF for capturing this special moment with my Grandpa,”
she wrote alongside the video.
That post immediately attracted attention, but not for the reason she likely expected.
Several viewers claimed the crowd noise sounded noticeably different from what had been heard during the live broadcast.
Social Media Users Raise Questions
Critics quickly pointed to what they described as cheering replacing the boos that were clearly audible during the original television coverage.
Others noted that the national anthem itself could not be heard in the uploaded version.
Those differences sparked a wave of speculation online.
“Changing the audio is wild though,” one user wrote.
Another commented:
“That’s embarrassing changing the audio.”
A third critic went even further:
“It’s sad in a way that she had to change the audio from booing to cheers, my God are all the Trumps fibbers.”
Missing Audio Fuels More Speculation
Some viewers focused less on the crowd reaction and more on what they believed was missing from the clip.
One commenter argued that the absence of the anthem raised additional questions about the video’s authenticity.
“Why isn’t the National Anthem playing in this clip? When I watched this clip LIVE, the anthem was playing and the boos were loud and clear. This is NOT an authentic clip.”
At this stage, there is no public evidence confirming that the audio was intentionally altered.
Alternative explanations have also been suggested, including the possibility that the footage was captured from a different source, contained edited sound, or was processed before being uploaded.
Spotlight Returns to Trump’s Finals Appearance
The controversy has added another layer of attention to what was already a highly publicized appearance.
Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game when he arrived at Madison Square Garden for Game 3.
He watched the contest from a luxury suite alongside Knicks owner James Dolan and several senior administration officials.
Reports from inside the arena noted that the president was met with audible boos when he appeared on the jumbotron, though he showed little reaction to the crowd’s response.
While debate continues over what exactly viewers heard in Kai Trump’s social media post, the discussion has ensured that a short video clip is now generating almost as much attention as the game itself.
