When supporters finally step away from a powerful movement, the exit is often incredibly messy. Now, one former insider is speaking out about her very public political divorce.
A painful exit
Carrie Prejean Boller once served on Donald Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission. The conservative activist lost her position earlier this year, and she is now opening up about her dramatic split from the former president’s circle.
During a Wednesday appearance on Piers Morgan’s show “Uncensored,” she delivered a scathing review of her old political home. According to HuffPost, she explained that loyalists face severe punishment for questioning the party line.
“For far too long, I think we’ve been told, us MAGA conservatives, that we’ve been in a cult. And I sort of feel like I am leaving this cult, because as soon as you think for yourself and have common sense and question the narrative, you’re ostracized,” she said on the program.
The inner circle breaks
Her departure from the commission happened in February. It followed a heated hearing where she defended right-wing commentator Candace Owens against allegations of antisemitism.
Now, she points to a growing list of famous conservatives who have recently faced harsh backlash.
“Look at Tucker Carlson. Look at Thomas Massie. Look at Marjorie Taylor Greene. Look at Candace Owens. Look at myself. You know, as soon as you go against the cult leader, which, I think Trump is the cult leader, then you, all of a sudden, are ostracized from the party,” she noted.
Despite the harsh split, she insists her core political beliefs remain unchanged. “I think we, as MAGA conservatives, we still are conservatives. We still hold firm to our principles, but we are no longer a part of this cult,” she told Morgan.
Looking for a new home
She went even further to describe the emotional toll of her departure. “I think, you know, it feels like we are coming out of an abusive relationship, that’s just how I feel,” she added.
These explosive comments arrive right as several high-profile defectors tease the creation of a brand-new third party.
“I think someone like Tucker Carlson, Thomas Massie, Joe Kent, Marjorie Taylor Greene, those are the people that we’re leaning towards,” Prejean Boller explained.
HuffPost reported she is eager to support those who have been canceled by the establishment.
