Trump promises big things for the now former press secretary
Being the main spokesperson for an important person can be taxing.
Being the top spokeswoman for a highly controversial president is even harder.
The White House press secretary is done being the mouthpiece for the President of the United States, but he just dropped a big clue to what she will do next.
Looking toward the midterms
President Donald Trump announced that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down at the end of the month. Leavitt’s own statement framed the exit as a personal decision to spend more time with her young family.
Yet political analysts see a different motive behind the timing. Trump wrote on social media that she will step down and transition into a different role, becoming a ‘top outside advisor’ and an ‘influential voice’ in the Republican Party as a looming defeat is threatening the GOP in November.

According to journalist Simon Marks, moving Leavitt outside of the administration suggests the White House wants her talents on the campaign trail, where Republicans face increasingly difficult races during the upcoming midterm election.
Why did she quit?
Other reports pointed to burnout following her brief maternity leave. At 28, Leavitt made history as the youngest press secretary and the first to hold the job while pregnant.
According to the Daily Mail, it was not just the young kids that were the reason for the young secretary quitting. Leavitt also experienced “extreme burnout” in her role as Trump’s mouthpiece.
She has been the press secretary since January 2025. In contrast, during Trump’s first term, he churned through five different secretaries.
A loyal MAGA foot soldier
Throughout her 20 months in office, Leavitt built a reputation as a fiercely loyal defender of Trump’s MAGA agenda. The Guardian reported that she earned regular praise from the president while clashing openly with traditional news outlets. She was not shy to confront reporters during daily press briefings.
During one heated exchange over a fatal shooting of Renee Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis, Leavitt shot back at a journalist, calling them a “left-wing hack” who did not belong in the briefing room with the other journalists.
She also tried to cover for Trump during intense questioning over his past connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Leavitt insisted the relationship between the president and the pedophile financier proved “absolutely nothing other than the fact that President Trump did nothing wrong.”
Karoline Leavitt resigned a day after the Washington Post reported a security threat made Trump secretly switch planes, leaving Leavitt, among other high-ranking members of the administration, on the exposed decoy plane.
