The sight of a partying president struck a bitter nerve.
When millions of lives hang in the balance halfway across the globe, you might expect top leaders to be glued to a phone in a crisis room.
But a weekend at a luxury golf club offers a very different kind of schedule.
Weekend at the club
A new video shows President Donald Trump unwinding at his Bedminster estate. Online footage cited by Irish Star captured the president happily dancing to the classic hit YMCA.
He spent the evening celebrating alongside his oldest daughter, Ivanka Trump. Alina Habba, a lawyer rumored to be in the running for White House press secretary, also joined the festive crowd.
That lighthearted scene unfolded right as the president’s son-in-law tackled a massive diplomatic mission overseas. Jared Kushner, serving as the American peace envoy, spent his Sunday in Egypt negotiating with Hamas leaders.
Desperate push for peace
The diplomatic team is urgently trying to rescue a 15-point ceasefire plan backed by Washington. Kushner and fellow envoy Steve Witkoff are pushing a framework requiring Hamas to surrender its weapons and Israeli forces to withdraw.
Following the Sunday talks, Kushner is scheduled to meet the Israeli prime minister on Monday. The stakes could not be higher for the roughly two million people living inside Gaza.
More than ten months have passed since major military operations officially paused, yet the humanitarian toll remains staggering. The Gaza Ministry of Health reports that at least 73,386 Palestinians have died since fighting erupted in late 2023.
Boiling point at home
Back in the United States, the sight of a partying president struck a bitter nerve. Social media users quickly contrasted the wealthy country club weekend with the daily struggles of ordinary families.
One vocal critic pointed out that everyday people are scrambling to afford basic groceries and fuel. “Glad he and his rich friends are enjoying themselves while our military is fighting another senseless war in the Middle East,” the user wrote online.
This public anger follows controversial remarks Trump made about the military just days earlier. During a recent press event, he casually dismissed concerns over grueling conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, declaring that the ship’s nearly nine-month deployment was “not nearly long enough.”
The exhausted crew faces severe mental health struggles, according to military publications like the Navy Times and Stars and Stripes. Conditions became so bad that two sailors recently jumped overboard. Luckily, both were rescued alive.
