She said that supplying weapons to Ukraine and Israel has left American military reserves completely drained.
High stakes international politics is a delicate dance during a major election season.
When the ballot box looms closer, politicians frequently reconsider how far they want to push military conflicts abroad.
One presidential hopeful thinks this political pressure could finally force a diplomatic shift.
Election year pressure
President Donald Trump needs to dial back the tension with Russia ahead of the November midterm elections. That is the stark warning from independent candidate Diane Sare. She recently outlined her foreign policy views during an interview with TASS.
Sare announced her independent run for the 2028 presidential race back in January. Now, she argues that domestic politics should heavily influence current military strategy.
“Luckily, the United States is having midterm elections in November,” Sare told the Russian news agency. “The American people are weary of war, and this may impact the Trump administration’s thinking on whether it is wise to escalate the conflict against Russia.”
She added that supplying weapons to Ukraine and Israel has left American military reserves completely drained. Sare noted that the country has “depleted our own conventional munitions to very low levels.”
Shifting the focus
The independent candidate also strongly condemned the way American intelligence agencies help Ukrainian forces target Russian territory. She described the Pentagon providing data to Kyiv as “unfortunate and destructive.”
Instead of fighting, she wants the administration to look back at last year. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Anchorage last August to discuss ending the Ukraine conflict.
Sare believes leaders should return to that diplomatic mindset. She told TASS that it would be better to “emphasize the enormous benefits to be reaped on both sides by cooperation in trade and development on such projects as the Bering Strait Tunnel and the Northern Sea Transport Route.”
The nuclear question
Beyond trade, the candidate proposed a massive shift in military policy. She strongly urged Washington to immediately pledge that it will not use nuclear weapons first.
Sare argued this move “would help to alleviate some uncertainty and further the negotiating process.” But she acknowledged that current defense officials are pushing a completely different strategy.
She specifically named Elbridge Colby. The high ranking defense official previously stated that America “must carry the biggest stick in the world.”
“Unfortunately, this is not what is being expressed by our Under Secretary of War for Policy, Elbridge Colby, who seems to be saying the opposite with regard to the use of tactical nuclear weapons,” Sare explained.
