The administration quickly defended his decision.

Politicians often draw a strict line in the sand when talking to the public. Behind closed doors, however, their private actions can look entirely different. One high-profile leader just proved that point.

A quiet ballot return

President Donald Trump recently cast his ballot in the Florida Republican primary. Rather than visiting a local voting booth, he chose to send his choices through the mail.

Local records from Palm Beach County confirm his method. The president requested the paperwork in late July and submitted his completed ballot on August 13.

This decision immediately raised eyebrows. According to Politico, the president regularly claims that voting by post creates massive fraud across the country.

Fighting the system

During a speech in July, Trump dismissed the entire system. “Mail-in ballots are inherently corrupt,” Trump said.

His administration is fighting to restrict the practice nationwide. Lawyers are asking the Supreme Court to revive a presidential order that limits absentee voting before the midterm elections.

A lower federal court previously blocked that move. Meanwhile, Trump is pushing Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would demand strict photo identification for all federal elections.

The president insists remote voting should only be available for people who are sick, deployed in the military, or traveling away from home.

Brushing off criticism

The administration quickly defended his decision. White House spokesperson Olivia Wales released a statement addressing the contradiction.

“As President Trump has said, the SAVE America Act has commonsense exceptions for Americans to use mail-in ballots for illness, disability, military, or travel,” Wales said. She added that the president believes universal postal voting remains highly vulnerable to cheating.

Wales dismissed the controversy entirely. “As everyone knows, the President is a resident of Palm Beach and participates in Florida elections, but he obviously primarily lives at the White House in Washington, D.C. This is a non-story,” she said.

The local rules

Local election rules in Florida allow any registered voter to request a postal ballot without providing an excuse. State lawmakers recently added new identification requirements, but they refused to ban the practice entirely despite heavy political pressure.

Trump used the same system earlier this year for a special election in Palm Beach County.

His latest vote arrived just in time for a busy primary race. The local ballot features a heated contest for governor that includes his favored candidate, Representative Byron Donalds.
