Donald Trump threatens to bomb Oman while Iran calls his strategy a “delusional fantasy”

Tensions rise as Donald Trump threatens economic warfare and military action in Middle East.

Navigating an increasingly complex conflict in the Middle East, Washington has begun directing intense political frustration toward long-standing regional partners.

As military operations approach the six-month mark without a clear resolution, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued blunt warnings targeting neighboring nations attempting to mediate or facilitate transit along critical maritime corridors.

Focus has dramatically shifted toward the Sultanate of Oman, a nation historically recognized for maintaining neutrality and acting as a diplomatic bridge during regional crises.

Threats directed at a traditional mediator

Tensions escalated sharply following public comments regarding the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Rather than directing focus exclusively at adversary leadership, rhetoric from Washington took aim at Muscat’s efforts to broker practical compromises for commercial shipping.

“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the shit out of them,” Donald Trump told Fox News reporter Trey Yingst during a phone conversation according to Inews.

Muscat had previously offered to work alongside regional actors to manage toll collection on a voluntary basis to keep vital oil tankers moving through international waters. Washington, however, rejected proposals that compromise complete control over the region.

At a recent campaign rally, Trump claimed without evidence that the shipping channel would eventually operate as “a territory of the United States,” a concept quickly dismissed by Iranian officials as a “delusional fantasy.”

Diplomatic frameworks collapse as deadlines pass

Strategic options appear increasingly limited as previous diplomatic agreements fall apart. A 60-day memorandum of understanding signed alongside French President Emmanuel Macron at Versailles in June expired without yielding a binding peace agreement.

Supporters of the administration insist that hardline rhetoric remains the only viable strategy. Conservative commentator Gunther Eagleman posted on X that “President Trump isn’t screwing around anymore. Those days are DONE,” signaling strong domestic support among core constituencies for an aggressive posture.

Efforts to pass responsibility over to economic strategists have yielded similarly aggressive proposals. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Newsmax that Washington plans to enforce measures “never been seen in the history of economic isolation of a country” alongside strict naval blockades.

Tehran shifts toward an offensive stance

Efforts to force a quick capitulation have drawn sharp defiance from Iranian leadership. Demands from Washington for an immediate surrender were met with immediate rejection, with Iranian officials noting that economic pressures on American consumers ahead of upcoming domestic elections give Tehran significant leverage.

Following the expiration of the Versailles memorandum, senior Iranian officials confirmed to Reuters that the country would abandon defensive postures in favor of a “fully offensive” strategy if U.S. commitments are not fulfilled within weeks.

Unilateral threats against regional allies like Oman highlight broader shifts in foreign policy, as Washington increasingly takes a harder stance toward traditional partners than historical adversaries.
