A private celebration
Donald Trump Jr. recently celebrated his marriage on a pair of exclusive private islands in the Bahamas.
According to ProPublica cited by HuffPost, the three-day event featured spearfishing, a beachside DJ set, and a spectacular fireworks display. The president’s son kept the guest list tight. Around 50 people attended, including close family members and business partners.
“It was really small, like, just really close friends. Tried to keep it really tight. And it was just awesome,” Trump Jr. explained on his podcast.
But one notable name stood out on the exclusive list. Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with close ties to Vladimir Putin, attended with a large group of associates.
Footing the bill
ProPublica reported that Kremlev secretly bankrolled hundreds of thousands of dollars in wedding expenses.

His connection to the president’s son appears incredibly recent. They were publicly seen together on a panel in Istanbul just last September.
A spokesperson for Trump Jr. confirmed the friendship. They insisted the men bonded over their shared love of boxing and the outdoors, stressing there is no business relationship between them.
The security concerns
The financial arrangement is drawing intense scrutiny from intelligence experts.
Frank Montoya Jr., a retired FBI official who worked in counterintelligence, told ProPublica the situation is incredibly risky. He noted that oligarchs in Kremlev’s position rarely act without coordinating with the Russian government.
“If I’m paying for your wedding, at some point, you’re going to owe me something,” Montoya Jr. explained. “This should be unthinkable for the son of the president. End of story.”
Holden Triplett, a former National Security Council director, added that foreign intelligence services often use money to build ties with the families of American officials.
A powerful player
Kremlev’s background makes the connection even more complicated. He rebuilt his fortune and influence with help from the Kremlin.
ProPublica noted that the Russian state-owned energy giant Gazprom previously poured tens of millions of dollars into his boxing association. The Ukrainian government has also placed personal sanctions on him due to his deep ties to Putin and Russian security services.
His press office insisted he never discusses politics with his American friends. They stated that the relationship is strictly personal.
The White House and the Russian government have remained silent on the matter.
