US President Donald Trump has developed a few highly specific preoccupations during his second term. According to the Irish Star, one of his favourite talking points is the White House Ballroom.
He reportedly tries to steer almost any conversation toward that single room. Now, a totally different historical issue is taking up his daily attention.
Trump recently stopped the planned renovations at the Kennedy Center in Washington. This abrupt move happened right after courts prevented him from plastering his own name on the famous 1971 landmark.
A famous family
Over at the Daily Beast, critics wonder if his legendary predecessor triggers a strong reaction. Author Michael Wolff recently joined their podcast to share his own theory.
Wolff explained that Trump frequently compares his wife to a famous former first lady. He noted, “He’s obsessed with talking about Melania in the same breath as Jackie Kennedy. I think there is something there.”
The writer claims the fascination goes even deeper. Trump apparently admires how John F. Kennedy handled his private life while sitting in the Oval Office.
Wolff told the podcast, “The Kennedy thing, very important to Trump, very, you know, you know, very you know, he spends a lot of time talking about Kennedy, the women that Kennedy had in the white House and talking about that.”
Ignoring the risks
The author noted that Trump viewed those past actions quite favourably. Wolff added, “And of course, in a very positive way. Oh, yeah. And that he got away with that and wasn’t that incredible?”
This intense focus might actually be hurting his wider political goals. Wolff explained, “He is willing to focus on, obsess about that to his own very clear disadvantage. It’s departed reality. It’s a madman stuff.”
When discussing the blocked renaming attempt at the Kennedy Center, Wolff suggested that being told no only makes the president want it more. Protests took place this week to support the performing arts venue.
Wolff claimed that White House advisors simply avoid the subject completely now. He stated, “You just let him because he’s crazy. He’s mad. You just gotta let him. Let him have that.”
