Here are some examples of how ard the nor’easter hit the East Coast during the weekend.
From El Niño to tropical storms and flooding, the weather has been unruly this past month around the globe.
During the weekend, severe weather hit most of the East Coast in America.
The weather phenomenon is called a nor’easter and happens when dry air from the Arctic meets moist air from the Gulf of Mexico and forms an extratropical cyclone that moves along the East Coast.
Here are some of the effects the nor’easter had on various eastern states this weekend.
Kayaking in Queens, New York
The nor’easter caused flash flooding in parts of New York this weekend. In some parts of the city, getting around proved dangerous and troublesome.
The streets were flooded and the water rose so high that it became impossible in some boroughs around New York to travel on foot or by car.
As a result, some residents took different and rather drastic measures in order to get from point A to point B. People were even seen kayaking in Queens in order to get to the Howard Beach – JFK Airport train station.

Storm cleanup in Connecticut
The neighboring state of Connecticut also had its fair share of problems during the nor’easter.
In the coastal town of Milford, the power went out for about 13 hours as the city went underwater and trees fell onto the roads.
“We weren’t expecting much; I thought it was just going to be a little bit of wind, but around 1:30 this morning my wife woke me up and was like, ‘We have no power,'” Dan Berlingo, a resident of Milford, told the local news station News 8.
The nor’easter claims a life
In more serious news, AccuWeather reports that the nor’easter storm killed a person in New York when a tree fell on a 56-year-old man in Brooklyn.
More than 69,000 people in New Jersey lost power after wind gusts hit the shores at more than 70 miles per hour. The storm and rain got so bad that people had to be evacuated by boat from their homes.
“I’m a retired fireman. I’m used to doing the rescuing, and today, I was rescued,” a New Jersey resident told AccuWeather after he and his family were evacuated from their home as floodwaters rose around their house.
Forecasters warn that the nor’easter may linger into Monday with strong winds and some continued flooding.
