An unlikely commander
Robert Brovdi once traded grain and sponsored the arts. Today, he sits in a dark bunker surrounded by glowing screens broadcasting live footage across an 800-mile stretch of the Ukrainian front.
Before the invasion began, he lacked military experience. He joined the local territorial defense forces right before the conflict erupted.
His journey into modern warfare started completely by accident. He bought a commercial drone for his son, quickly realizing its potential for scouting enemy positions.
Waiting for the wave
Now, Brovdi commands a highly sophisticated aerial operation. Analysts expect Moscow to send roughly 300,000 fresh recruits to the battlefield soon, hoping to secure the Donbas region.
The Ukrainian commander told the Telegraph, cited by Ziare how his teams plan to handle the surge. “We will turn Putin’s new infantrymen into minced meat.”
He noted that casualty rates are already climbing. “Putin will send his serfs to the front line, and they will die in even greater numbers than now,” he said.

Striking from above
The conflict looks very different today. Brovdi noted that previous Moscow campaigns kept the domestic population shielded.
“In all its previous wars, Russia conducted them in such a way that its civilian population did not feel directly affected by the war,” he said.
His teams changed that equation entirely. “In 2026, this situation was changed by our freedom-loving Ukrainian ‘birds.’ Deep-sea operations effectively destroyed the concept of having a secure rear, throughout the entire European part of Russia.”
These machines have hit oil refineries up to 1,900 miles away. According to Ziare, those strikes have slashed Russian oil refining capacity by nearly half.
No end in sight
Diplomats continue searching for a political solution. United States envoys recently travelled to both capital cities to discuss terms.
Despite the political chatter, the drone commander remains skeptical about lasting peace.
“From a military point of view, I don’t believe in the end of the war, even if a ceasefire agreement is reached,” he said.
