The politician from Michigan effectively ended her political career yesterday when she betrayed the Democratic Party two days before the election and endorsed the party’s bitter rival.

United States Representative from Michigan Haley Stevens has had a horrible couple of months.

First, she gave up her House of Representatives seat to run for the vacant Senate seat in Michigan with the backing of the Democratic establishment.

However, she lost quite stunningly to the more progressive Abdul El-Sayed, who is now in a tough battle against MAGA faithful Mike Rogers.

The norm is that the losing candidate will campaign with the Democratic nominee. That is not what happened here. Instead, a stunning betrayal took place last night on CNN when Stevens endorsed the GOP candidate.

A painful watch

Representative Haley Stevens appeared on CNN with host Anderson Cooper to explain her choice to back Republican Mike Rogers over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan after she made a video denouncing her Democratic colleague.

Things quickly went downhill for Stevens.

Cooper repeatedly pressed Stevens to explain why she abruptly dropped El-Sayed after previously endorsing his Senate bid. Stevens dodged. Instead of giving a direct answer, she turned on the host. “It sounds like you’re upset with me too, Anderson,” Stevens said.

Stevens seemed erratic and surprised by all the backlash she had gotten from every Democrat and supporter in America.

Among those reacting was famed political strategist David Axelrod, who said the lawmaker seemed in distress. “I thought that was very, very sad, and you know, Haley Stevens is obviously struggling, and I think trying to find her way through something that she hadn’t fully thought through,” Axelrod said during a CNN panel after the interview.

Representative Debbie Dingell also voiced deep concern. “This was one of the most painful interviews I’ve ever watched,” Dingell said, adding that she had been worried about Stevens for days.

A mass exodus from the staff

Much of Stevens’ campaign staff reportedly resigned in protest after learning she had crossed party lines. Stevens brushed off the walkout as routine turnover. “There’s just a couple weeks of lame duck left here,” Stevens said. “These are great individuals who I care a lot about, and certainly, they’re free to share their views on this. I am not trying to upset anyone.”

Stevens blamed a campaign commercial for the rupture. An outside ad with no ties to Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign had linked consumer costs to American aid for Israel.

“This is just a weight off my shoulders,” Stevens said. “Abdul has been getting angrier and angrier. I was trying to help, and I endorsed him. That ad was very painful.”

Stevens gets Trump’s endorsement

Stevens is a staunch defender of Israel, even though she is not Jewish but Protestant. She has repeatedly criticized Abdul El-Sayed for being antisemitic and a supporter of the terrorist organization the Muslim Brotherhood without offering up any evidence behind these claims.

El-Sayed shrugged off the betrayal outside a Detroit church. “This is a state of 10 million people who deserve a lot better from the government,” El-Sayed said, according to the Washington Sun. “I’m a lot more focused on the 9,999,998 that are not the ones you guys are talking about.”

Donald Trump praised her move at an Iowa rally, calling her brave. Even so, Stevens reminded viewers that she voted to impeach Trump twice. She seemed legitimately befuddled about all the backlash and that the president would turn around and endorse her.

This will most likely be the end of her political career.
