Live results: 2026 midterm elections — Who takes control of Congress?

Follow our live coverage of the 2026 midterms as voters across the country decide which party will take control of Congress.

Another big win for the Democrats in North Carolina

North Carolina keeps producing great results for the Democratic Party.

Jamie Ager just beat out incumbent Republican Jennifer Balkcom who has served in the North Carolina House of Representatives for the 117th district since 2023.

Trump won by a large margin in that part of the State just two years ago.

Where is the Republican Party going to find upsets and unexpected wins?

It is still very early, but Republicans are not winning in any of the battleground states where polls have already closed.

However, they still hold out hope that they can win Senate seats in Ohio, Texas, and Michigan.

BREAKING: Roy Cooper just picked up a huge win for the Democrats in the Senate

WOW! Roy Cooper, the Democratic Senate candidate in North Carolina just flipped the first of the four Senate seat required to get control of the Senate in Congress.

He beat out Trump’s handpicked candidate Michael Whatley in a landslide with over 65% of the votes. The race was not even close.

Some very interesting things are happening in Florida

So the GOP re-drew the congressional map in Florida to get more votes for the Republican Party.

That has not worked out so far. In Florida House 9, Democrat Darren Soto just beat out Republican Dan Green.

In Florida 14, Kathy Castor was just announced as winner against Republican Mike Beltran.

In Florida District 22, Pia Dandiya from the Democratic Party defeated Republican Casey Askar.

Lastly, in Florida District 24, Democrat Oliver G. Gilbert III just won against Te Mayonna Brown.

Some shocking results indeed.

Polls just closed in 17 states

It is officially 8 p.m. and polls have just closed in 17 states. That is the largest batch of states, so expect some new Senate and House results very soon.

BREAKING: Republican Moore Capito The West Virginia Senate seat

While it has not been an hour since the first polls closed, the Republican Party has not have anything to celebrate as some of the battleground states have shown that early votes favor the Democrats.

But Republican Moore Capito was just called as the winner in West Virginia beating out Rachel Anderson with over 60% of the votes.

BREAKING: Democrat Jon Ossoff has defeated Mike Collins as will serve another term as Senator in Georgia

The Election tracker VoteHub just needed 10% of the counted votes to make a call that Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff will be reelected in Georgia where he has defeated Republican Mike Collins.

NBC News has since also projected this win.

Jon Ossoff is an early favorite by yours truly for the Democratic presidential nominee. Tonights results only amplifies that.

Polls are now closing in three important states

Polls just closed in North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia. Especially North Carolina and Ohio are important to determine which way the Senate will swing tonight.

The Democratic Party has to flip four Republican seats in order to get the majority in the Senate.

While votes are being counted, Trump is focused on TV ratings

Taking a look at Donald Trump’s Truth Social, the president does not seem to be laser focused on the election.

Instead, he laments Fox News and their ratings:

“FoxNews Ratings are way down (27%!) because they’re spending too much time covering the Trump Deranged Dumocrats! All of those people who used to watch Fox, and no longer do, get it. It’s them, not me — My numbers are better than they have ever been.”

Trump also wrote:

The FoxNews Poll, always the worst, is so insulting with the questions they ask. Every question is a hit job, and every answer is “BULLSHIT!” This has been going on for years. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Is Florida going to elect the first Democratic Govenor since 1994?

This midterm election might be remembered for shattering records.

The Florida Governor’s race is surprisingly close with over half of the votes already counted as David Jolly, a former Republican who defected to the Democratic Party because of Donald Trump is leading his opponent Byron Donalds 52,91% to 46,01%.

This would be a major upset!

There has been reports about ‘unusual questions’ from elections monitors

There has written much about the DOJ choosing to put 1,000 elections monitors in states where Democrats are expected to win.

Critics have sounded the alarm about the Trump administration trying to interfere in the election.

And there have been some reports about just that: In New Mexico, some DOJ monitors have been asking “some unusual questions and doing things that are not allowed by law such as questioning voters” in one of the counties, according to PBS reporter Lis Landers.

In Michigan, Votebeat reports that DOJ monitors have acted “outside of their legal scope,” meaning that the monitors have asked questions they are legally not allowed to.

In both states these issues have reportedly been resolved

The first polls close

It is 7 p.m. and the first six polls have closed and the first results are trickling in.

CNN just reported that Democratic Senator Mark Warner will be reelected in Virginia.

A note about tonight’s coverage

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs tonight because the seats have two-year terms.

Furthermore, there are 35 seats up for grabs in the Senate tonight. Fifteen to twenty of those are expected to determine whether the Democratic Party takes control of both houses.

This live blog will cover the tight Senate battles in swing states such as Ohio, Texas, Michigan, Kansas, Alaska, and Florida, which will determine which party gets to celebrate over the coming days.

I will also cover some of the House elections in states where surprising results will emerge. But it is virtually impossible to cover all 435 elections in the 50 states. Democrats need only pick up three seats to gain control of the House of Representatives.

I will additionally update you on anything important that the president says — either on Truth Social or to reporters. Lastly, I will do my best to find and bring you stories that are important and relevant to this election.

Welcome in!

Welcome to Dagens.com’s live blog for the 2026 midterm elections!

It is a monumental night for American politics and the future of the country for the next two years. Will Trump cling to power with the GOP retaining the Senate, or will he become a lame-duck president for the last two years of his term and effectively end the MAGA movement?

Most polls are predicting a sweeping Democratic victory in both houses, but as we have seen in the past, Trump and the GOP have a tendency to defy the polls.

I will update everyone in this blog on breaking news, the most important updates, and other relevant stories all night long.

So stay right here on this site and live blog and keep refreshing the page.
