Trump has already found someone to blame, after Republicans suffer crushing defeat in Texas

Donald Trump turns on longtime ally after a historic Republican defeat in Texas.

The Republican Party is facing a political reckoning after Tuesday’s midterm elections delivered a series of major victories for Democrats, dramatically changing the balance of power in Washington.

Democrats secured control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, leaving President Donald Trump facing a significantly more difficult political landscape for the remainder of his presidency.

But rather than accepting responsibility for the Republican setbacks, Trump has already begun pointing fingers at members of his own party.

And one of his most prominent allies has become an early target, according to Rawstory.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott suffered a historic defeat to Democrat Gina Hinojosa, prompting an angry response from the president, who had previously endorsed him.

Trump lashes out at Greg Abbott

Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday night to criticize Abbott, suggesting the governor had abandoned the political approach that previously made him successful.

“If Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life, he wouldn’t have lost. He went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty!” Trump wrote.

RINO stands for Republican in Name Only, a term Trump frequently uses against Republicans he considers insufficiently conservative or loyal.

The president did not explain which specific decisions had supposedly cost Abbott the election.

His criticism was nevertheless remarkable considering their longstanding political relationship.

Abbott had been one of the Republican Party’s most recognizable governors, particularly through his hardline positions on immigration and border security.

His defeat also ended decades of Republican control of the Texas governor’s office, making Hinojosa’s victory especially significant.

Democrats deliver a major blow to Trump

The Texas result was part of a much broader Democratic victory.

According to CNN, control of both chambers of Congress has changed hands in the same election only twice over the past 50 years.

The outcome means Democrats will gain substantial influence over legislation and congressional investigations when the new Congress convenes in January.

For Trump, that could mean greater scrutiny of his administration and considerably more resistance to his political agenda.

However, the president suggested Republicans would have enjoyed a very different election night if he had personally been running.

In another Truth Social post, Trump claimed his party would have won “IN A LANDSLIDE” if his name had appeared on the ballot.

The claim was hypothetical, but it offered a clear indication of how the president views the Republican defeat.

Rather than suggesting his own popularity had declined, Trump appeared to place responsibility on the candidates who had actually been standing for election.

Trump promises to explain who deserves the blame

The president also announced that he intends to offer his own analysis of the election results.

“I’m going to become a Political Pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these Candidates won and lost!” Trump wrote.

His comments suggest that Abbott may not be the last Republican to face public criticism from the White House.

The election results have already raised questions about the party’s strategy and its ability to maintain support beyond Trump’s own appearances on the ballot.

Despite his frustration, the president indicated that he would recognize the outcome.

According to Axios, Trump told the New York Times that he was “absolutely willing to accept” the election results.

But accepting the results and accepting responsibility for them appear to be two very different matters.
