Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Lindsey Graham in Antalya on May 14—just one day before Ukraine is set to meet Russia for direct peace talks in Türkiye.
Sybiha shared details from the meeting on X, where he said they discussed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s vision for peace and coordinated strategies ahead of the critical meeting in Istanbul.
“We discussed in detail the logic of further steps and shared our approaches,” Sybiha posted.
Kyiv Calls on Moscow to Step Up
In his message, Sybiha made it clear that Ukraine has taken steps toward a peaceful solution—but that it’s now Russia’s turn to do the same.

“So far, it has not. Moscow must understand that rejecting peace comes at a cost,” he said.
The Istanbul meeting on May 15 marks the first direct talks between Ukraine and Russia since early 2022, when previous ceasefire talks collapsed.
President Zelenskyy has confirmed he will attend the talks and once again called for a ceasefire ahead of the summit. But all eyes are now on Moscow, as Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly not part of the Russian delegation heading to Istanbul.
At the same time, Clash reported—citing a U.S. official—that U.S. President Donald Trump also won’t attend the peace talks, despite earlier hints that he might.
