If you missed night two of Trump-a-palooza, here are three takeaways from the evening of MAGA celebrations.
After many shocking revelations on the first night of the brand-new Republican convention, there was an anticipatory tension in the air for what night two would bring.
Pundits have dubbed this convention Trump-a-palooza because Trump spoke both nights and was at the center of it even when he was not speaking.
Did the second night of the Republican convention live up to the hype? Here are three takeaways from the second night of Trump-a-palooza.
Trump urged his constituents to ‘cheat like hell’
The highlight of Trump’s speech on night one of Trump-a-palooza was the promise of $5,000 to every American adult if they vote for Republicans during the midterm election in November.
He reiterated that same talking point during last night’s speech, but he also had the crowd make a rather unusual pledge with him.
“Please raise your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States. That loves us so much he can’t even breathe. That I will go out with my family, my friends, I’ll do it any way… I don’t care if I’m registered or not, I’m going to try to cheat like hell like they do,” Trump said while holding up his right hand.

JD Vance auditions for the 2028 presidency
The second night of Trump-a-palooza also gave the vice president a chance to speak to GOP voters ahead of the midterm election.
The topics during JD Vance’s keynote speech resembled a lot of what Trump touched on, but without the same rigor or grandeur as the president’s.
The highlight of Vance’s speech came when a protester with a Mexican flag interrupted him, which made Vance turn the incident into a culture war moment.
“If you love Mexico so much, get your ass over there. I’ll buy you a plane ticket,” Vance said. The crowd loved it and broke out in a “USA” chant.
If one did not know any better, one would have thought this moment was scripted.
So, did Trump-a-palooza move the needle?
Much of the reason to hold a brand-new political convention in Dallas, Texas, was to try to unite a fractured GOP in a state where a usually safe Senate seat is being challenged.
However, Donald Trump could not stop trashing Ken Paxton, the candidate he has personally backed for the Senate in Texas. Both nights, Trump made fun of how the Attorney General of Texas looks and dresses.
Trump was also the only one touting his free $5,000 plan. No other speaker on night two, not even the vice president, promoted or even mentioned his idea.
Trump’s answers on who will foot the bill are quite vague. When asked where the money is coming from before boarding the newly Qatari-gifted Air Force One, Trump said, “Out of growth. We have tremendous growth,” without elaborating.

Trump himself was heavily promoted the last two nights. As for the question of whether it gave Republican lawmakers in danger of losing their elections a boost – the question will be answered on November 3, 2026.
