As tensions flare between Israel and Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump has struck a surprisingly optimistic tone, suggesting that peace is not only possible but imminent. Speaking to reporters on Sunday,

Trump said he sees “many possibilities” for an agreement, while also offering a stark caveat: “Sometimes they have to fight.”

Optimism Amid Escalation

The remarks come days after Israel launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and urban areas, with Tehran responding via drone and missile attacks.

The death toll continues to climb, with over 220 Iranians and 23 Israelis reported dead since Friday.

Despite the violence, Trump said, “I think it’s the right time to reach an agreement and we’ll see what happens.”

He declined to say whether he has urged Israel to halt its attacks, telling reporters, “I don’t want to say that.”

Trump added that Israeli and Iranian leaders “have a great deal of mutual respect,” even as they exchange fire.

Positioning Himself as the Peacemaker

On his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that ongoing negotiations are already yielding results thanks to his personal diplomacy.

“Soon we will have peace between Israel and Iran,” he wrote. “There are many calls and meetings underway… I do a lot and never get credit, but people understand. Let’s make the Middle East great again.”

He made the comments just before departing for the G7 summit in Canada, as speculation grows around whether a ceasefire or mediated solution could emerge in the coming days.

While Trump’s statements have raised eyebrows, they also underline the unpredictability of current diplomacy and the high stakes surrounding any potential agreement, as reported by 20minutos.
