US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will leave the G7 summit in Canada early to return to Washington and address the ongoing situation in the Middle East, CNN reported.

“I have to get back. Very important,” Trump said, while praising Canadian Prime Minister and G7 host Mark Carney as “a great host” who “did a fantastic job.”

“But you probably see what I see,” Trump added, as cited by Digi24. “And I have to get back as soon as I can.”

His aides confirmed that Trump would leave Monday evening, a full day earlier than originally planned.

“I have to come back early for obvious reasons. They understand. This is a big deal,” Trump said.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated on X: “A lot has been accomplished, but because of what’s happening in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with the heads of state.”

Ceasefire Proposal Between Israel and Iran

French President Emmanuel Macron said that Trump has made an offer for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Reuters reported.

Previously, Trump had urged people to evacuate Tehran immediately and repeated that Iran should have agreed to a nuclear deal with the US.

The G7 has faced difficulties reaching common ground on several major conflicts, including the wars in Ukraine and between Israel and Iran.

Trump has openly supported Russian President Vladimir Putin and imposed tariffs on some of the US’s closest allies attending the summit.

A US official confirmed that Trump will not sign a draft statement from the G7 that calls for de-escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict. Despite this, Macron described Trump’s early return as a positive step toward reaching a ceasefire.
