Donald Trump is under fire after abruptly leaving the G7 summit in Canada and following it with a controversial outburst online — one that critics have labeled “psychotic” and dangerous.

Early Departure from G7

Trump departed the summit a day earlier than planned, citing “what’s going on in the Middle East” as the reason.

“Much was accomplished,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on X, “but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner.”

Trump himself told reporters that Canadian Prime Minister and G7 host Mark Carney “understood” the urgency.

“I wish I could stay until tomorrow, but they understand, this is big stuff,” he said, according to The Guardian.

His exit meant missing the final discussion and public release of a joint G7 statement urging de-escalation in Gaza and Iran. Although the U.S. signed the document, Trump’s subsequent comments seemed at odds with its message.

Online Outburst Draws Criticism

After the summit, Trump posted a sharply worded message on his platform Truth Social, dismissing French President Emmanuel Macron’s claim that his departure related to ceasefire efforts.

“Publicity-seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a ‘cease fire’ between Israel and Iran. Wrong!” Trump wrote. “Much bigger than that… Stay Tuned!”

The post sparked immediate backlash.

Critics called the tone “unhinged” and “petty,” questioning what Trump considered “much bigger” than preventing a regional war.

Others pointed to his history of alienating allies, including past remarks about wanting Russia reinstated into the G8.

Trump added to the controversy by escalating his message: “Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life,” he wrote. “Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”

The call for evacuation of Tehran—without any clarification of imminent danger—alarmed commentators and policymakers alike, with many questioning the wisdom of such public messaging during an already volatile moment.
