If we are to believe Latvian Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, it won’t make much difference if Ukraine wins and Putin eventually steps down as the President of Russia.

According to him, Russia will simply continue as it always does. Kariņš has stated that Russia will persist in seeking new targets for aggression, irrespective of the outcome of the major war against Ukraine. He expressed these opinions in an interview with the Financial Times.

According to him, Russia possesses an imperialist ideology, meaning the threat from Moscow will persist even if dictator Vladimir Putin steps down and Ukraine reverts to its 1991 borders.

‘We have to continue’

“Russia will not stop; Russia can only be stopped. Stopping Russia in Ukraine does not mean it’s all over. It simply means that we have to continue,” said Kariņš.

The diplomat noted that NATO should work on a long-term strategy to deter Russia.

Krišjānis Kariņš has previously been quoted as saying that a defeat for Ukraine could lead Putin to start a third world war.
