FDA Flags Multiple Cheese Products

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of several cheese varieties produced by Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op in Ohio.
The recall was triggered by contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. It affects a range of products distributed to retailers, distributors, and dining halls.
The contaminated cheese includes both loaves and shredded varieties, as well as a separate product distributed under the Sunrise Creamery label.

This product was sold in 8-ounce packages and has a sell-by date of February 13, 2026.
Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op Mozzarella/Provolone Cheese

Packaged in 5-pound bags of shredded cheese, this mozzarella/provolone blend carries a sell-by date of September 3, 2025.
Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op Colored (Yellow) Cheddar Cheese – Loaves

These cheddar cheese loaves, weighing 5 pounds, are labeled either as Smoked Cheddar or All Natural Mild Cheddar.

Sunrise Creamery Dilly Pickle Monterey Jack with Pickles Cheese

Sold under the Sunrise Creamery label, this cheese came in two formats.
One is a 6-ounce package labeled Dilly Pickle, with lot code 253054 and sell-by dates of January 7, January 11, or February 16, 2026.
The other is a 1.25-pound package labeled Dilly Pickle Jack, also with lot code 253054 and a sell-by date of December 25, 2025.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a serious infection especially dangerous to pregnant individuals, elderly people, young children, and anyone with a weakened immune system.
Symptoms to Watch For

Symptoms of listeriosis may include high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and in serious cases, life-threatening complications.
Medical attention is advised for anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming any of the recalled products.
What Consumers Should Do

Anyone in possession of the recalled cheese products is advised to dispose of them immediately or return them to the store of purchase for a full refund.
The FDA has confirmed that the contamination was identified through internal testing of both finished products and cutting equipment at the Middlefield facility.

Products Distributed in Four States

All the affected products were sold to buyers in Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Texas.
It is possible that some of the cheese may have also reached consumers through secondary distribution.
