If you purchased frozen vegetables over the summer, it’s time to check your freezer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent recall affecting several popular frozen vegetable products.

Here’s what you need to know.

Active Recall in the US

Endico Potatoes Inc. has issued a recall of frozen vegetables in seven U.S. states due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The announcement was made by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after routine sampling in Pennsylvania uncovered the presence of the bacteria.

All affected bags bear the green and red Endico label on the front.

Where the Products Were Distributed

The recalled vegetables were distributed between July 18 and August 4 to stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Florida.

What Is Listeria and Why It Matters

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause listeriosis, a potentially serious infection.

It is particularly dangerous for young children, elderly individuals, pregnant people, and people with weakened immune systems.

What to Look Out For

Symptoms of listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, nausea and vomiting, and/or diarrhea.

If you experience these symptoms after eating frozen vegetables, seek medical help immediately.

No Reported Illnesses—Yet

So far, no illnesses have been reported.

However, the company and FDA are urging all consumers to take the recall seriously and act quickly.
