Mexican drug cartels are now offering bounties on everything from intelligence gathering to the assassination of federal U.S. agents, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports.

In a press release, the DHS stated that it has obtained “credible intelligence” indicating a collaboration between Mexican criminals and extremist groups in the U.S., offering “tiered” bounties on ICE agents as well as personnel from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

“These criminal networks are not just resisting the rule of law—they are waging an organized campaign of terror against the brave men and women who protect our borders and communities,” said Secretary Kristi Noem in a statement.

From $2K for intelligence to $50K for a hit

According to the DHS, the tiered bounty system includes:

  • $2,000 for gathering intelligence
  • $5,000–10,000 for kidnapping or non-lethal assaults on standard ICE/CBP officers
  • $50,000 for the assassination of high-ranking officials

Additionally, the collaboration is creating spotter networks in U.S. cities with the objective of relaying real-time movements of ICE and CBP agents.

Claims link to Antifa

According to the DHS, Antifa groups in Portland and Chicago have provided logistical support and on-the-ground interference in order to shield cartel-linked individuals.

The groups have reportedly also engaged in “doxxing” agent identities, including photographing agents and their families.

The DHS urges the public to report suspicious activities to the DHS Tip Line or via the ICE website.
