Akon, the chart-topping artist whose early hit “Locked Up” became an anthem of trouble with the law, has found himself in a strangely fitting real-life echo of his lyrics.
The 51-year-old singer spent time behind bars on two separate occasions this autumn after run-ins with police in Georgia, according to reporting from Se og Hør and local media.
A stalled car
The first incident unfolded in September, when officers encountered Akon’s Tesla Cybertruck stopped in the middle of the road.
He reportedly told police the vehicle had simply run out of power.
When officers checked his record, they discovered his licence had been suspended because he had failed to appear in court the previous year.

He received a fine, and the electric truck was towed from the scene.
Second arrest
Just a few weeks later, on 7 November, Akon was taken into custody on a warrant issued in Dekalb County.
Local outlets reported that he spent several hours in jail before being released the same day.
The reason behind the warrant has not yet been disclosed, though authorities confirmed the release occurred without incident.
He has yet to comment on the incident himself, but fans on social media have already dubbed the story “Locked Up 2.0”
