Diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine remain uncertain as political leaders signal ongoing contact.
Fresh comments from the US president suggest dialogue is continuing behind the scenes, reports Reuters.
Ongoing talks
Donald Trump says he has been in contact with both sides of the Ukraine conflict.
According to Reuters, the US president stated he has held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“I do have conversations with him, and I do have conversations with President Zelenskiy, and good conversations,” he said.
He did not provide details about when these exchanges took place.
Push for peace
Trump indicated that efforts to resolve the war are still underway.
According to Reuters, he said: “We’re working on the Russia situation, Russia and Ukraine, and hopefully we’re going to get it.”
The comments came during an interview on Fox News.
He has previously pledged to bring the conflict to an end.
Tensions highlighted
The president also pointed to strained relations between the two leaders.
“The hatred between President Putin and President Zelenskiy is ridiculous. It’s crazy,” Trump said.
He added that such hostility complicates attempts to negotiate peace.
“Hate is a bad thing when you’re trying to settle something, but it’ll happen.”
War continues
Despite diplomatic efforts, the conflict shows no sign of ending soon.
According to Reuters, the war began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
More than a year into Trump’s second term, fighting is ongoing.
Efforts to reach a resolution remain complex and uncertain.
