Donald Trump once promised he could end the war in Ukraine within a single day.
Months later, the conflict continues with no clear breakthrough in sight.
Talks continue
US President Donald Trump said he is maintaining dialogue with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Speaking to Fox News, he indicated that Washington is still working toward a potential agreement to end the conflict, according to The Independent and Digi24.
“We’re working on the Russia situation, Russia and Ukraine, and hopefully we’ll reach a (peace) agreement,” Trump said.
‘Hatred is bad’
Trump criticised the personal tensions between the two leaders, calling the situation “ridiculous.”
“The hatred between President Putin and President Zelensky is ridiculous. It’s crazy. And hatred is a bad thing. Hate is a bad thing when you’re trying to solve something, but it’s going to happen,” he said.
He added that discussions with both sides remain “constructive” despite the strained relationship.
Rising tensions
Trump’s comments came as Zelensky sharply criticised Moscow’s actions near the Chernobyl nuclear site.
The Ukrainian president accused Russia of engaging in “nuclear terrorism” and warned of serious risks tied to military activity in the area.
“The world must not allow this nuclear terrorism to continue, and the best way is to force Russia to stop its reckless attacks,” Zelensky said.
Focus abroad
While much of the White House’s recent foreign policy attention has been directed toward the Middle East, Trump signalled that the war in Ukraine remains a priority.
His remarks underline the complexity of balancing multiple global crises while attempting to broker peace between two entrenched sides.
