This is the first time King Charles is visiting Trump.
As two of the world’s closest allies come together for a significant state visit, the focus has been on unity and cooperation.
However, a short private exchange has sparked wider interest.
Quiet exchange
King Charles III and Queen Camilla were welcomed to the White House by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the start of their state visit.
The leaders smiled for cameras and later attended a garden event with guests, including public figures and senior officials.
However, according to the Daily Record, a lip reader has suggested that Trump made striking remarks during their initial greeting.
Warning shared
Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the outlet that Trump referenced both a recent shooting incident and international tensions.
“This shooting …” Trump appeared to say, with King Charles responding, “I’d rather not stand about here too long,” and adding, “I feel I shouldn’t be here.”
Hickling said Trump then reassured the King, stating: “It’s not a good thing. I wasn’t prepared, but now I am prepared.”
Putin mentioned
The conversation reportedly shifted toward Russia, with Trump said to have mentioned ongoing discussions with President Vladimir Putin.
“So right now, I am talking to Putin,” Trump allegedly said, before adding: “He wants war.”
According to the interpretation, King Charles attempted to steer the conversation away, replying: “Another time.”
