A new survey is painting a bleak picture for Donald Trump as public frustration builds over economic pressures and foreign policy decisions. The findings suggest concerns extend beyond policy disagreements into perceptions of leadership itself.

Approval slides further
Support for Trump has continued to erode, with dissatisfaction reaching new highs. A late-April survey by The Washington Post, ABC News and Ipsos, cited by Digi24, shows 62% of Americans disapprove of his performance.
His approval rating has dipped slightly in recent months, now standing at 37%, while backing among independent voters remains particularly low.
Key policy areas appear to be driving the decline, especially economic management and international decisions.
Pressure from crises
The US involvement in the Iran conflict has drawn criticism from a majority of respondents, with two-thirds expressing opposition. Economic concerns are also weighing heavily, as rising fuel costs and inflation shape public sentiment.
Support for Trump’s handling of the economy has weakened, while approval on inflation and overall living costs has dropped to some of its lowest levels.
Even immigration, typically a political strength for Trump, now divides voters more negatively than before.
Leadership concerns deepen
Beyond policy, the poll highlights growing skepticism about Trump’s personal capacity to govern. A majority of respondents questioned his mental sharpness and physical fitness for office.
At the same time, perceptions of character are also unfavorable. Around seven in ten participants described him as dishonest, while many expressed doubts about his ability to make balanced decisions.
More than half of those surveyed also viewed him as a weak leader.
Controversial proposals
Several policy ideas associated with Trump’s agenda are facing strong resistance. Proposals such as ending birthright citizenship and cutting funding for medical research were rejected by large majorities.
Plans to significantly increase military spending and remove temporary protections for certain migrant groups also drew widespread opposition.
Within his administration, most senior figures received negative confidence ratings, with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell standing out as the only official viewed positively.
Election outlook
The political implications could be significant ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. According to the same poll, Democrats currently hold a lead in preferences for the House of Representatives.
Among undecided voters, that gap is even wider, suggesting potential challenges for Republicans in maintaining control of Congress.
All 435 House seats and a portion of the Senate will be contested in the vote scheduled for November 3, 2026.
