Police in Ohio have shared new footage as they seek answers in the fatal shooting of a married couple found dead in their home.

The killings occurred just days before the couple were due to mark a major personal milestone.

Welfare check alarm

Officers from the Columbus Division of Police were called to the Weinland Park home of Spencer and Monique Tepe on December 30 after concerns were raised about the family’s safety.

Spencer Tepe, a 37-year-old dentist, failed to show up for work, prompting colleagues and friends to check on him.

According to CNN, they heard the couple’s two young children crying inside the house but were unable to gain entry.

Dr. Mark Valrose, who owns the dental practice where Spencer worked, made the first emergency call.

“He is always on time, and he would contact us if there were any issues,” Valrose said in audio shared by CNN. “This is very out of character for him.”

Desperate calls

Another caller told a dispatcher the situation was escalating as the children continued crying inside the home.

“I can hear kids inside, and I swear I think I heard one yell,” the man said. “But we can’t get in.”

Police eventually entered the property and discovered Spencer and Monique dead inside. Both had suffered gunshot wounds. Their children, aged four and one, were found alive and unharmed.

Footage released

As the investigation continues, police have released CCTV footage showing a person of interest near the home during the early hours of the morning.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Columbus Division of Police said: “Detectives believe the murder of Mr. and Mrs. Tepe occurred sometime between 2:00 and 5:00 a.m. on the morning of December 30th in the upstairs of their residence.”

“Recovered video footage shows a person of interest walking in the alley near the Tepe residence during that time frame,” the statement added.
