Mango heir released as father’s “accidental” death becomes murder investigation

What was first believed to be a fatal hiking accident involving Mango founder Isak Andic is now being investigated as a possible murder, with his son at the center of the case.

Jonathan Andic, the son of Mango founder Isak Andic, was released by a court in Martorell after posting €1 million in bail.

His father, Isak Andic, died in 2024 during a hiking trip in the Montserrat mountains in December of that year. At the time, the incident was considered an accident.

The case has recently been reopened and is now being investigated as a homicide. Several aspects of the incident are therefore being examined more closely, according to EL PAÍS.

Investigation takes dramatic turn

Isak Andic founded the clothing company in 1984, which later developed into a global fashion giant. Isak Andic reportedly had a net worth of €3.8 billion, CNN reports.

Isak Andic died at the age of 71 after allegedly falling during the hike with his son. The fall was reportedly more than 100 meters, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, EL PAÍS reports.

Jonathan Andic, who was alone with his father at the scene, was ordered by the court to surrender his passport and remain in Spain while the case continues. He is also required to meet with authorities on a weekly basis.

Investigators are currently focusing on Jonathan Andic as a suspect in his father’s death, as the judge believes there may have been financial motives involved.

Family rejects suspicions

Investigators have reportedly focused in particular on Jonathan Andic’s previous visits to the mountain area, based on analyses of his mobile phone data.

Police also noted what they described as contradictory statements from Jonathan Andic. The family’s internal relationships are therefore also being examined as part of the investigation.

The family maintains that Jonathan Andic is innocent. Defense attorney Cristóbal Martell has also strongly criticized the charges, calling them unfounded.

The investigation is ongoing while the court reviews the evidence gathered by police, according to EL PAÍS.
