The 83rd Golden Globe Awards delivered no shortage of viral moments, but one brief silence during a live broadcast quickly became one of the night’s most talked-about mysteries.
Viewers at home heard the bleep. Those inside the room heard something else entirely.
A new category
Snoop Dogg took the stage to present the Golden Globes’ first-ever award for Best Podcast, a category introduced this year as the ceremony continues to expand beyond film and television.
The rapper and producer opened with a relaxed, crowd-warming monologue.
“This is the Golden Globes, and you’re with the D-O-double-G,” he said.
The award ultimately went to Amy Poehler for her podcast The Good Hang.
The bleep heard round Hollywood
As Snoop continued his speech, viewers watching the broadcast noticed a sudden censor beep mid-sentence.
The moment came just before he announced the winner, leaving fans wondering whether the cut was intentional, technical or something more deliberate.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the censored line was far from subtle.
Speaking candidly to the room, Snoop told the audience: “I’m high as a motherf**ker right now. Y’all had me here too damn long.”
The comment, delivered to laughter inside the venue, was removed from the televised broadcast for audiences at home.
Jokes and jabs
Before the censor moment, Snoop also poked fun at the new podcast category itself.
He joked that before podcasts existed, people listened to him “driving around in your cars.”
He also praised the Golden Globes for recognizing podcasters, calling them all “winners,” before leading into the announcement of Poehler as the first recipient of the award.
