Coffee may still be the most popular way of getting a caffeine fix, but in recent years, energy drinks such as Red Bull, Monster and Celcius have become more and more popular.

Not for children

Energy drinks are not meant to be consumed by children because of the high levels of caffeine, which can result in anxiety, increased heart rate and loads of other symptoms.

Not for adults either?

But even though, you’re an adult and can buy and consume pretty much whatever you want, there’s consequences to every action – and a new study has revealed a frightening risk of consuming energy drinks.

Taurine is the problem

According to Daily Mail, the new study shows that taurine, a common ingredient in energy drinks, can act as a fuel source for laukaemia cancer cells, which develop in the bone marrow.

Naturally produced, but …

Taurine is naturally produced in our bodies, but researchers warn that additional intake might be linked to serious health risks – even though taurine are being used to curb side effects of chemotherapy.

Excercise caution

While the study focused on the risk of accelerating growth of blood cancer, it should still act as a warning when deciding how to get your next caffeine fix.
