1290: King Edward I of England banishes all Jews

The Edict of Expulsion was a royal decree expelling all Jews from the Kingdom of England.

The date of issuance was most likely chosen because it was a Jewish holy day, the ninth of Ab, which commemorates the destruction of Jerusalem and other disasters the Jewish people have experienced.

1812: England at peace with Sweden and Russia

Negotiated by the British minister-plenipotentiary in Sweden, Edward Thornton, the two Treaties of Örebro was signed.

They formally ended the Anglo-Russian War (1807–1812) and the Anglo-Swedish War (1810–1812), neither of which had seen serious military action.

1918: Nelson Mandela is born

Born in Mvezo, South Africa, Mandela grew up to fight against the Apartheid, spending 27 years in prison, before being elected as the country’s first black head of state.

He was also the first elected in a fully representative democratic election.

He passed away in 2013 at the age of 95.

1925: Hitler publishes Mein Kampf

The book outlines many of Hitler’s political beliefs, his political ideology and future plans for Germany and the world.

He began writing Mein Kampf while imprisoned following his failed coup in Munich

1954: Machine Gun Kelly dies

George Kelly Barnes, better known by his nickname Machine Gun Kelly, was an American gangster from Memphis, Tennessee, active during the Prohibition era in the US.

He died in prison of a heart attack, one day before his 60th birthday.
