Here’s what to look for—and what to do if you have it at home.

Popular Chicken Sausage Recalled

More than 24,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken sausage are being recalled across the U.S. after reports of plastic contamination.

This was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The Affected Product

The recall affects 11-ounce vacuum-packed packages of All Natural Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Sweet Apple with Vermont Maple Syrup, produced by Kayem Foods Inc.

The sausages were distributed nationwide and sold at major grocery chains, including Walmart stores in at least 28 states.

According to Walmart’s web page, the store has issued a recall in the following stated: Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico.

What to Look For

Consumers are urged to check their packages for the following details:

  • Lot Code: 179
  • Use/Freeze By Date: October 1, 2025
  • Establishment Number: P-7839 (inside the USDA mark of inspection)

If your package matches these details, do not eat it. The FSIS recommends throwing it away or returning it to the store where it was purchased.

Why the Product Is Being Recalled

The recall was triggered after three consumers reported finding white pieces of plastic inside the chicken sausage.

So far, no injuries or illnesses have been reported, but the foreign materials could pose a choking hazard or cause internal injury if swallowed.

While the contamination appears limited to this specific product and batch, FSIS officials emphasize the importance of checking your food carefully.

Even small pieces of plastic can lead to serious harm if consumed.

What You Should Do

If you have this product in your fridge or freezer:

  1. Stop using it immediately.
  2. Check the package details listed above to confirm if it’s part of the recall.
  3. Dispose of the sausage safely, or return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund.

Consumers with questions can contact Kayem Foods’ customer service through their website or by phone for more information about the recall and refund process.
