During a meeting at the White House, Venezuelan opposition leader and the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, María Corina Machado, presented Donald Trump with her medal, which Trump reportedly accepted.

According to Reuters, a White House official confirmed that Trump intends to keep the medal.
“She is a wonderful woman”
After the meeting, Machado told reporters that it was “excellent,” explaining that the gift was a recognition of what she called Trump’s commitment to the freedom of the Venezuelan people.
The meeting took place after Donald Trump had previously dismissed the possibility of Machado being installed as the new Venezuelan leader following the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro during the first weekend of 2026.
After the meeting, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, that it was a wonderful gesture of mutual respect from the Venezuelan opposition leader.

Nobel Committee: Cannot be transferred
On January 9, 2026, the Nobel Peace Prize posted a statement on its website saying that the Nobel Committee and the Nobel Institute had received “a number of requests” for comments on whether a Nobel Peace Prize can be transferred from the recipient to another person.
And it cannot.

“Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time,” the statement says.
It is unclear whether the requests mentioned are related to Machado gifting Trump her Nobel Peace Prize.
