A recent study has highlighted the impact of lifestyle choices on lifespan. Researchers analyzed data from the Veterans Affairs Million Veteran Program, which includes medical records and questionnaires from over one million U.S. veterans. They identified eight habits that significantly influence longevity. According to Xuan-Mai T. Nguyen, a health science specialist at the Department of Veterans Affairs and a medical student who presented the findings at Nutrition 2023, these habits could reduce mortality by 13% compared to those who practice none of them. “Veterans who commit to moderate changes towards a healthier lifestyle in midlife can extend their expected lifespan,” Nguyen told Medical News Today.
