Elon Musk has escalated his opposition to President Donald Trump’s proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill”
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has threatened to form a new political party if Congress passes a major spending bill backed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The bill, which is being debated in the Senate, includes tens of billions of dollars for immigration enforcement, border walls, and detention centers, CNN and Digi24 report.
Musk Slams Debt Increase
Musk criticized the bill on his social media platform, X, calling it the “largest debt increase in history.”
He wrote:
“Every member of Congress who campaigned to cut government spending and then immediately voted for the largest debt increase in history should hang their heads in shame!”
He added that such lawmakers “will lose the primary election next year if that is the last thing they do on this Earth.”
Later, Musk escalated his warning:
“If the crazy spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day.”
Sharp Increase in Deficit
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the Senate version of the bill would add nearly $3.3 trillion to the U.S. deficit over the next 10 years.
The House version would increase it by $2.4 trillion.
The bill allocates $46.5 billion for border barriers and $45 billion for immigration detention over four years. This would make U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in the country.
White House border adviser Tom Homan said earlier this month that the system is nearing its maximum capacity, estimating that “we’re probably at 95 percent or above.”
A Growing Rift
Musk has repeatedly voiced opposition to Trump’s domestic spending plans in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, he and Trump clashed publicly over the proposed bill, with Musk calling the policy “debt slavery.”
