The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported the detention of a Chita resident suspected of espionage for Ukraine.

The individual is believed to be the administrator of a Telegram channel that gathered information on the Russian Armed Forces and engaged in activities deemed as high treason in favor of Ukraine.

"The FSB of Russia in the Trans-Baikal Territory suppressed the illegal activities of a local resident involved in high treason in the interests of Ukraine," as reported by RIA Novosti.

The suspect was apprehended while attempting to cross the border, reportedly seeking political asylum in the United States.

Allegations include running a Telegram channel that collaborated with Ukraine's SBU, engaging in anti-Russian propaganda, and collecting sensitive data about the Russian military.

Authorities have initiated a treason case against the individual.
