A sharp exchange on social media has now highlighted how differently two famous political sons chose to say their vows.
A rooftop contrast
According to reports by the Irish Star, Hunter Biden took to X to mock Donald Trump Jr. over recent headlines about his Bahamas wedding.
The post featured a photo of Biden and his wife, Melissa Cohen, relaxing by the ocean. He used the moment to highlight the contrast between their ceremonies.
“Don Jr. needed a Russian oligarch, two islands, and a fireworks show. I got married on the rooftop of an apartment building in West Hollywood. It was so much cooler,” Biden wrote.
Clearing the air
The online jab followed an investigation by ProPublica revealing that Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch close to Vladimir Putin, helped fund Trump Jr.’s wedding weekend.
Kremlev reportedly paid for a private island rental and a fireworks display. The report sparked intense media attention and national security concerns.
Bettina Trump responded on Instagram by posting photos from the May event. She pushed back against the growing backlash.
“Apparently, our wedding is making headlines again, so a little clarity seems in order,” she wrote.
Defending the gift
She insisted the festivities hosted by Kremlev were separate from their private ceremony, calling the weekend “an extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend, and something for which we were and remain incredibly grateful.”
The new bride dismissed political motives, calling the story “fake news” and declaring there was “NO CONSPIRACY, NO MYSTERY.”
“It’s unfortunate that something so personal and happy can be recast as something political or sinister simply because of who someone is or where they come from,” she added.
“Friendship doesn’t require a political motive. Generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda. And sometimes a wedding gift is simply a wedding gift,” Bettina posted.
Lingering security fears
Despite her explanation, former counterintelligence officials warned that accepting such gifts creates serious risks.
Frank Montoya Jr., a retired FBI official, expressed deep alarm over the financial arrangement in statements to ProPublica.
“If I’m paying for your wedding, at some point, you’re going to owe me something,” Montoya Jr. explained. “This should be unthinkable for the son of the president. End of story.”
