Iranian authorities have executed Roozbeh Vadi, a man convicted of passing sensitive information to Israel about a nuclear scientist who was killed during the recent escalation between the two countries, Iran’s Mizan Online judicial portal reported on Wednesday.
Convicted of Spying for Mossad
According to the Iranian judiciary, Vadi was hanged after his death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court. Officials accused him of providing confidential information about one of the Iranian nuclear scientists killed during the 12-day war launched by Israel in June.
The report claims that Vadi was employed by one of Iran’s “important and sensitive organizations”, which gave him access to classified information. He was allegedly recruited online by Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service.
Surge in Spy-Related Executions
Vadi’s execution marks a significant rise in Iran’s crackdown on alleged Israeli espionage. According to Iranian media, at least eight executions of individuals convicted of spying for Israel have taken place in recent months.
Iranian authorities have intensified their efforts against espionage activities following Israel’s unprecedented bombing campaign against Iranian territory in mid-June.
