When a long conflict finally winds down, the battle of words immediately begins.
Both sides usually try to frame the outcome to their own advantage, convincing their citizens that the struggle was worth it. A massive new diplomatic agreement has triggered a wave of triumphant media reactions overseas, reports HotNews.
Glorious defeat
The ink is barely dry on the new peace agreement between Washington and Tehran. But the spin machine is already running at full speed. Media outlets in Iran are loudly celebrating what they describe as a major win over the West. According to a report by HotNews, which referenced coverage from CNN and News.ro, local front pages on Thursday mocked American military ambitions.
One prominent daily newspaper, Javan, which has close ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, declared that the United States suffered “a glorious defeat”. The publication argued that Israel and the US started the war with grand goals. Still, Iran ended up coming out much stronger than anyone anticipated.
Other state-supported media outlets took direct aim at US President Donald Trump. The newspaper Hamshahri printed a front-page illustration showing the American leader biting a crumpled piece of paper. The accompanying headline read: “On the wings of the wind,” which is a traditional Persian phrase used to describe something completely wasted.
Non-negotiable weapons
The triumphalism extended to the country’s highly strategic waterways. A conservative and influential newspaper named Kayhan reminded its readers about the nation’s chokehold on global oil shipments. The message was unmistakable. Its front-page headline stated: “The Strait of Hormuz is our weapon of deterrence; our leverage is non-negotiable.”
Beyond military boasting, some editors focused heavily on the financial windfall promised by the new pact. The publication Sazandegi splashed the number 300 across its front page. This was a direct reference to the potential $300 billion reconstruction fund included in the agreement.
This money would come from private international investors rather than American taxpayers, but local media is already framing it as a massive economic payout. While Washington defends the deal as a way to stop hostilities, Tehran is wasting no time declaring total victory to its public.
