Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down at the end of August. The news arrived after the birth of her second child earlier this year. Trump stated that Leavitt is leaving “so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect!”
The former press secretary shared her own thoughts on social media shortly after the announcement. On X, she described the moment as “bittersweet” while reflecting on her family needs. She explained that she could not be the “best mom” her children deserve “while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention” required for the high profile role.
Trump added that Leavitt will remain close to his administration as “one of [his] top outside advisors.” Her exit leaves a major vacancy at the White House podium. Potential replacements being discussed include White House aides Natalie Harp, Taylor Rogers, Anna Kelly, and Liz Huston.

Attention quickly turned to a newly surfaced video. Filmed inside Marine One just one day before the official announcement, the clip captures a remarkably tense exchange between Leavitt, Trump, and aide Natalie Harp. Lip reader Nicola Hickling analyzed the silent moment for the Irish Star.
Hickling reported that Leavitt asked Trump and Harp a brief three word question. “Are you sure?” Leavitt asked. Harp allegedly replied, “We don’t like it. There’s going to be an announcement as soon as possible, okay?” Leavitt simply responded, “Okay.”
During the conversation, the lip reader noted that Harp shrugged while holding up two fingers. Harp allegedly added, “This has now happened twice,” before repeating, “Twice, as you know,” to her colleague. Leavitt folded her arms and turned away as the flight continued.
