Mobile phone users need to be cautious, as the McAfee team has identified 25 apps containing the Xamalicious malware.
According to Greek Flash.gr, The McAfee Mobile Research Team has named the new malicious software "Xamalicious" because it utilizes an open-source mobile application framework called Xamarin and abuses the operating system's accessibility rights.
It is also capable of collecting metadata about the compromised device and communicating with a Command and Control (C2) server to retrieve a second-stage payload, but only after verifying if it matches the account.
While Google has removed these apps from the Google Play Store, they continue to be available on third-party app stores.
The apps carrying this malware family gain accessibility rights, allowing the user's device to communicate with a server without the owners' knowledge.
Although these apps are no longer available on the Play Store, if you have installed any of them, you should remove them:
