The disagreement erupted as Meghan tried to re-establish contact with Thomas Markle, 81, following major leg amputation surgery in the Philippines.

Contested account
According to The Express, Meghan’s spokesperson claimed a reporter had been “broadcasting each interaction” with Mr Markle and had made it “exceedingly difficult” for the duchess to communicate privately.
They said Meghan resorted to calling numerous hospitals before trusted intermediaries ensured a written message finally reached him.
The spokesperson argued that the reporter’s continued presence at his bedside amounted to “breaching clear ethical boundaries”.
Strained relationship
Meghan is believed not to have her father’s current phone number, following their fractured relationship before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
