Russia’s embassy in London has criticised Britain’s latest sanctions package against Moscow, calling the measures ineffective and accusing the UK government of escalating the war in Ukraine.
The response came after British authorities unveiled another round of restrictions targeting Russia amid the continuing conflict, reports TASS.
Moscow reacts
In comments carried by the Russian state agency TASS, a spokesperson for the Russian embassy described the sanctions as illegitimate and politically motivated.
The embassy argued that previous British restrictions had failed to influence Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine and claimed the newest measures would have little impact.
“Today, London announced another set of illegitimate sanction measures against our country,” the spokesperson said.
“Evidently, the impact of this hostile move, like the previous ones, on the overall situation, and even more so on the course of the special military operation, will go unnoticed, despite the British authorities’ pompous slogans.”
Accusations against Britain
The embassy also accused the United Kingdom of contributing to the continuation of the war through military and financial assistance provided to Ukraine.
According to the statement, British support for Kyiv was intensifying the conflict rather than helping to bring about a settlement.
“It is worth mentioning that it is London that is fanning the flames of the Ukrainian conflict by flooding the Kiev regime with money and weapons,” the spokesperson said.
“The Ukrainian population is paying for such ‘assistance’ with the lives of the most vulnerable social groups.”
Continued pressure
Britain has remained one of Ukraine’s strongest European backers since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.
London has imposed multiple rounds of sanctions on Russian officials, businesses and strategic sectors while also supplying military aid and training to Ukrainian forces.
The latest exchange highlights the continuing diplomatic confrontation between Moscow and Western governments over the war and ongoing sanctions campaign.
