Voters in Florida delivered a decisive blow to Representative Cory Mills, rejecting his bid for a third term in the Republican primary.
Multiple severe controversies surrounded the 46-year-old congressman throughout his campaign, culminating in a loss to intra-party challengers while under scrutiny from federal authorities and local police.
Investigation into domestic violence allegations surfaced last year after law enforcement looked into accusations that the congressman assaulted a 27-year-old woman. Criminal charges were subsequently dropped, but additional claims emerged later in the year involving his former girlfriend.
Lindsey Langston, crowned Miss United States in October 2024, filed a police report detailing repeated harassment after ending their three-year relationship.
“Since February 20th of 2025 Cory has contacted Lindsey numerous times on numerous different accounts threatening to release nude images and videos of her, to include recorded videos of her and Cory engaging in sexual acts,” police records obtained by Drop Site News state according to Huffpost.
Judicial intervention followed shortly thereafter, resulting in a Florida judge issuing a protection order against the lawmaker in October.
High-profile endorsements fall away
President Donald Trump initially offered backing for reelection in February, but later removed visible support. Strategic lists of primary endorsements shared on Truth Social contained no mention of the incumbent candidate.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly distanced his administration from the troubled campaign during a press conference on Friday.
“I have not endorsed Cory Mills, and I do not support Cory Mills,” DeSantis informed members of the media.
Ethics probes and financial troubles
Congressional oversight committees launched formal inquiries into allegations involving federal government contracts.
Investigators probed whether the representative illegally benefited from government business alongside separate complaints regarding campaign finance violations and misrepresentations of military service records.
Housing disputes added further public pressure after eviction filings exposed over $85,000 in unpaid rent for an apartment in Washington, D.C.
Court proceedings forced full repayment the following month, yet the accumulation of personal, legal, and financial scandals ultimately doomed his reelection campaign.
