There’s tension between the two princes, says expert.
Wedding invitations rarely make headlines.
Royal wedding invitations, however, play by a different set of rules.
As preparations continue for Peter Phillips’ wedding to Harriet Sperling on June 6, attention has shifted away from floral arrangements and seating plans and toward a notable absence. According to royal commentators, Prince Harry will not be among the guests when members of the Royal Family gather for the celebration.
Family Ties and Dividing Lines
Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne and cousin to both Prince William and Prince Harry, is reportedly expected to welcome several senior royals, including William, Catherine and possibly King Charles.
Harry’s name, however, does not appear to be on the guest list.
Royal commentator Emily Nash believes the decision reflects the current state of relationships within the family rather than any single event.
“I think it comes down to interpersonal relationships, doesn’t it? He wasn’t invited as a result,” she said to Express.
According to Nash, contact between Phillips and Harry has largely faded in recent years, leading to a natural distancing between the cousins.
William’s Influence Under the Spotlight
Observers of the Royal Family have long described Phillips as one of William’s most trusted relatives.
Nash noted that Phillips has remained particularly close to the Prince of Wales and has often acted as a loyal confidant behind the scenes.
Having both brothers present at the wedding, she argued, could have shifted public attention away from the couple themselves and toward ongoing speculation about the royal rift.
Wedding days are usually designed around the bride and groom. Royal weddings often carry the added challenge of competing headlines.
Harry Reportedly Has His Own Theory
Another source suggested that Harry views the situation differently.
“It is true that in the last few years they have drifted, but Harry says he’s 100% sure William is the reason that he’s been getting the cold shoulder from Peter.”
Claim has not been publicly confirmed by either Phillips or William.
Avoiding a Familiar Narrative
Family tensions have remained a recurring topic since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties, later releasing a Netflix series and Harry’s memoir Spare.
Those projects deepened existing divisions and generated years of discussion about the relationship between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family.
For Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling, wedding planners may have hoped for a celebration focused on marriage rather than monarchy.
Current guest list discussions suggest that, at least for now, royal family dynamics remain almost as fascinating to the public as the ceremony itself.
